ABOUT THE STUDIO
Live Breathe Dance
Since 1996, The Studio (formerly Progressions Dance Centre) has been a place where dancers of all ages can feel at home. Founded by Director Catharina Rutherford, our studio was built on the belief that dance should be fun, welcoming, and free from pressure.
We’ve always been a recreational studio, focused on creating a space where kids can learn, grow, and enjoy the process. Whether your child is 3 or 13, new to dance or returning after a break, they’ll find a place to belong and a team ready to support them.
Here, students can let go of outside pressures, explore movement, build friendships, and grow in confidence. Dance at The Studio is about more than just steps—it’s about showing up, trying something new, and discovering what you’re capable of.
At The Studio, we don’t compete... we celebrate.
We don’t chase perfection... we encourage progress.
We don’t just teach dance... we help kids live, breathe, and love it.

Children of all ages and levels deserve to experience the world of dance without the pressure of competition. Kids compete at school, in house leagues, in sports, in music and sometimes even at home.
Our studio allows them to leave their pressures behind so they can have fun, make friends build confidence and, of course, learn to love dance!

OUR DANCE STYLES
Ballet
We offer ballet classes that blend classical and lyrical styles, with a focus on making learning fun and engaging. Our classes follow the Cecchitti method of barre, centre, and corner work—an approach known for building a strong foundation in ballet technique.
Rather than traditional testing, we nurture talent and build confidence through regular practice, performance opportunities, and constructive feedback, allowing students to grow without added pressure.
Tap
We take pride in our tap classes, rooted in the traditional Broadway show style. Our instructors focus on rhythm, musicality, and terminology to help students build a strong foundation and express themselves creatively.
Classes follow a graded system, allowing students to progress based on technical ability and tap knowledge. This approach encourages confidence, motivation, and a deeper understanding of tap.
Jazz
Our jazz classes blend styles like classic, Broadway, hip hop, pop, funk, and lyrical, giving students a chance to explore different movements and expand their dance vocabulary.
With a focus on technique, rhythm, and musicality, our instructors guide students through structured exercises while encouraging creativity and individuality. The result is a fun, dynamic class that supports both growth and self-expression.
Acrobat
Our acrobat classes focus on building strength, flexibility, and basic gymnastics skills while blending in jazz dance elements for a well-rounded experience. Students are required to enroll in a jazz class alongside acro to support their overall development.
Tricks and technique are taught by Lauren, our resident gymnastics coach from Gymnastics Energy. This unique approach helps students build a strong foundation in both acrobatics and dance, setting them up for long-term progress.
